Tomorrow marks the first day of NaNoWriMo. Am I ready?

I wonder, which is better for NaNoWriMo, and in the long run? Showing, or telling?

I found a link via the NaNoWriMo forums to author Randy Ingermanson’s article, How to Write a Novel: The Snowflake Method. This is one of those articles where you read it, think, “Yeah, that’s the way to do things,” and then ask yourself, “So why am I not doing things this way?” The answer: “I never thought to do it this way!”

Being in the magical girl genre, “Dream Clover” is set to take as much as possible from the clichés set by other magical girl series. Or avoid them as much as possible. I started plotting out the characters, stories, and “magical girl elements” without giving much thought to clichés. Instead, I’m looking at clichés used and avoided as an after-thought.

With a month until NaNoWriMo, I figured I’d be writing short stories involving the cast of Dream Clover to allow myself to get to know the characters better. I’ll probably still do this, but I’ve found myself writing something different.
